Primary Purpose :
Plan and provide therapy to students with mental physical or emotional disabilities. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to maximize physical or mental functioning increase independent functioning and / or adjust to disabilities. Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation and planning team who determines eligibility for special education services. Act as a resource to ensure the district complies with all legal and compliance issues associated with local state and federal level.
Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
Bachelors degree in occupational therapy or related program
Valid Texas license as an occupational therapist granted by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Working knowledge of federal laws and state guidelines.
Working knowledge of rehabilitation procedures activities and equipment used in occupational therapy.
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience :
One year experience as an occupational therapist.
Experience working in an educational setting is preferred.

Supervise assigned Occupational Therapist Assistant(s)- (COTA) as needed

Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture : Prolonged sitting; occasional bending / stooping pushing / pulling and twisting
Motion : Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Moderate lifting. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Transferring of equipment to various campuses.
Environment : May work prolonged or irregular hours ; occasional districtwide travel
Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned. frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
