Job Summary
As a Senior Systems Engineer-Enterprise Collaboration, you are an expert on the platform and work closely with product, IT, and business stakeholders in an agile workflow, while being expected to embrace and promote an agile mindset. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting all components of the WGU Office 365 environment and associated infrastructure, including all related applications, servers, and services. Individuals in this position are expected to maintain a high level of ownership and investment in tasks associated with both new and ongoing O365 based needs. Incumbents must be able to lead efforts in troubleshooting, remediate and optimize all Office 365-based issues, while also working with engineering requirements and providing strategic recommendations to Management.

- Leads in the building of cutting-edge applications and services to increase and improve the student experience.

- Fosters and utilizes innovative approaches to problems and functionality for all key stakeholders.
- Owns technologies focusing on student success and scalability while supporting student-focused user experience.
- Collaborates with developers, designers, testing, and product management to develop features and innovative approaches to applications and features.
- Mentors and advises engineering teams on new languages and technologies; act as a resident expert when needed.
- Establishes a balance between strategic planning and initiatives with development, communication, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
- Leads in the prototyping and development of new technology and framework, improving the student experience.
- Identifies system redundancies and inefficiencies, proposing innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Works with internal customers to gather business processes and project requirements.
- Serves as primary system administrator for the Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 environment, performing system administration, configuration, and support tasks.
- Handles all basic administrative functions including user account maintenance, reports and dashboards, workflows, and other routine tasks.
- Completes regular internal system audits and prepares for upgrades.
- Manages Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 data feeds and other integrations.
- Coordinates the evaluation, scope, and completion of new development requests.
- Works with our institutional management team to establish suitable processes to support administrative, development, and change management activities.
- Assists in training of new users and grows the Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 skillset across the organization.
- Acts as a liaison between our users, vendors, and the application development teams.
- Works independently with members of the user community to define and document development requirements.
- Ensures proper deployment rollback / recover plans exist at all times.
- Resolves any Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 issues submitted into WGU's ticketing systems.
- Reviews developer code and PowerShell deployment packages to ensure best practices and procedures are adhered to.
- Creates and maintains documentation for the Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 infrastructure systems, policies, and procedures.
- Refreshes development 'Sandboxes' / orgs regularly.
- Participates in and serves as a resource for any Collaborative Platforms / Microsoft 365 related projects.
- Designs, builds, implements, and supports the messaging & collaboration technologies solution anchored on but not limited to the Microsoft Office 365 (O365) platform.
