Salary note

The previously determined range for this position was $36.08 to $80.98 / hr. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and works to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The Staff Nurse I engages with patients and families to advocate for the patient, develops educational plans, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care. The role participates in organizational and departmental activities and supports unit goals in daily operations.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment of the patient and input from the patient’s family.
• Shares information and collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient care.
• Verifies and implements orders from physician, physician assistant, and / or advanced practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed and documenting in the electronic medical record.
• Engages and obtains information from patient and / or family to develop an educational plan.
• Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient’s changing needs.
• Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
• Advocates for patients, families, communities, and the nursing profession.
• Integrates knowledge, evidence-based practice, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care as measured by nursing quality standards and governing bodies.
• Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
• Collaborates with other nurses to identify and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
• Serves as preceptor and / or resource to nursing and support staff and students.
• Pursues ongoing professional growth and development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation; current (AHA) ACLS / BLS / CPR and / or other required unit-specific certifications; effective communication skills; intermediate computer skills with the ability to use the Electronic Health Record; excellent attendance and interpersonal skills.

Emergency Department Experience Preferred
