Controller Position
We're hiring a hands on Controller to lead all aspects of accounting for a nonprofit organization that operates homeless shelters. This full charge role includes managing the general ledger, ensuring expenditures are properly classified to programs, and overseeing timely, well-supported invoicing to funderscritical for maintaining strong cash flow. The Controller will support budgeting for individual programs and the organization overall, with monthly reviews and occasional modifications. They'll also help prepare for the delayed 2024 audit and manage accounting across multiple entities, some of which are in transition. Initially, the sole internal accounting staff member, the Controller will work closely with external firms handling accounts receivable, general ledger, and accounts payable. Long-term, the goal is to build an internal team. Experience with nonprofit and government funding is essential, including grants from LAHSA, LA City and County, and the Department of Mental Health. Skills and requirements include a minimum Bachelor's Degree in accounting, 3+ years of previous experience as a Controller in the non-profit space, demonstrated team leadership experience, experience with fund and grant accounting / partnering with local government entities, experience using QuickBooks, CPA or MBA, and previous experience supporting the homeless population.
