SUMMARY : Assists student in improving their communication disorders to allow them to be more successful in academic and social situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in district early childhood screening programs to identify exceptional children at an early age.
• Participate in school-wide hearing screenings.
• Conduct thorough evaluations of speech and / or language needs of students referred and provide written summary reports.
• Conduct and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings following evaluations.
• Conduct and / or participate in IEP meetings and assist in writing IEP's (Individual Education Plan).
• Prepare a schedule and provide appropriate therapy for each pupil to accomplish the IEP goals and objectives.
• Serve as a consultant / resource person for speech / language concerns to the classroom teachers.
• Maintain open communication with parents and teachers through meetings, letters, and telephone calls.
• Participate in parent / teacher conferences when possible.
• Distribute quarterly progress reports to parents.
• Supervise assigned paraeducators.
• Attend workshops, conferences and classes to increase professional knowledge and expertise.
• Maintain files of current information on students and levels of progress utilizing approved district or state forms.
• Coordinate communication disorders evaluations with other agencies if needed.
• Provide data required for participation in the Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) program.
• Follow district policies and procedures as adopted by the Governing Board.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Designated Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Appropriate Arizona Speech / Language Pathology Certification.

SCOPE AND SALARY : 205 day contracted position, salary established on education and experience, with holidays and benefits according to district policy for certificated personnel.

EVALUATION : To be conducted by district Qualified Evaluator.
