Job description

PTS is looking for a Lead Electrical Controls Engineer with experience in Nuclear Power Plant Design and Modifications to join a top Engineering & Consultancy firm. This role will play a crucial part in design and analysis, as well as mentorship within the team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of proposals and support other engineers with creating deliverables for nuclear projects in the Electrical, Controls, and Digital areas.
  • Collaborate with the Project Engineer and Project Manager on multi-discipline projects, and step in as the Electrical or I&C Project Engineer when needed.
  • Serve as a technical lead for the client—guiding discipline-specific teams and offering your expertise in industry-standard design practices and calculations for commercial nuclear upgrades.
  • Work closely with engineers and designers to put together design change packages for modifications at operating nuclear plants and other related facilities.
  • Confidently prepare and review engineering change packages (ECs) to ensure they\'re accurate and complete.
  • Develop scoping documents and proposals that define the extent of Electrical, I&C, and Digital modifications, along with estimating the engineering and design effort required.
  • Perform field walkdowns to verify the existing setup of plant structures, systems, and components.
  • Handle a variety of Digital I&C design tasks, including updating system requirements, network architecture, control logic, and HMI to support design change documentation.
  • Create cyber security assessments and classify components in line with 10CFR73.54 and NEI 08-09, making sure critical digital assets are properly documented before presenting them to the client\'s Cyber Security Assessment Team for review and approval.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited school (required)
  • A master\'s or other advanced engineering degree is a plus
  • PE license is a big bonus—and if you don\'t have it yet, you\'ll need to be able to get it within a year of starting (required)
  • At least 8 years of design experience, with 4 of those specifically in nuclear plant modification work (DOE or commercial)
  • Experience working with several operating nuclear clients and vendors is a big plus
  • Having unescorted access—or previous on-site experience with it—is a big advantage. If not, you\'ll need to qualify for access at an active or under-construction nuclear plant (required)
  • Familiar with the industry-standard design procedure IP-ENG-001 (required)
  • Solid understanding of digital design practices, especially NISP-EN-04 (required)
  • Background in machine design is a nice bonus
  • J-18808-Ljbffr
