Housing Assistant
The Management Services Department supports public housing operations by overseeing lease enforcement activities and leading the implementation of key initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening NYCHA's effectiveness as a landlord. The department is also responsible for the development and implementation of operational policies. Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Housing Assistant will work under supervision with some latitude for independent action. The selected candidate will provide administrative and technical support for the Public Housing Program, including responding to inquiries, conducting research, maintaining records, and supporting property management staff. Core responsibilities include monitoring HUD Form 50058 submissions, administering HUD's Enterprise Income Verification (EIV) system, and ensuring timely resolution of deceased tenant reports to maintain compliance with HUD regulations. HOUSING ASSISTANT (HA) - 80201
Minimum Qualifications : A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or An associate degree or sixty semester credits from an accredited college and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in housing management at a development or developments containing at least 150 apartments, performing any one or a combination of the following duties : interviewing applicants; determining eligibility; gathering and evaluating information to resolve complaints; collecting rents; and / or resolving tenant-related problems; or A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described in "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of satisfactory full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent.
Preferred Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to work effectively with various populations. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and handle sensitive situations. Proficiency in NYCHA systems, particularly Siebel, AS400 and TSAP. Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Ability to manage a caseload independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting. Solid understanding of NYCHA and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of federal, state, and local housing regulations. Familiarity with NYCHA's operational structure and public housing programs.
