Overview
Position : Principal Quality Control Engineer
Location : Central, South Carolina, United States (Onsite)
Duration : 12+ Months contract with possible extension
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct quality control engineers assigned to perform inspections and surveillance in support of project work and / or maintenance activities.
- Provide quality control support to construction management and direct personnel to implement quality requirements and to accurately status the results.
- Establish priorities which support construction / operations needs.
- Resolve complex problems which develop during the implementation of quality activities by coordinating with internal and external departments.
- Provide leadership which inspires efficient performance of assignments, safe work habits, timely exchange of information and commitment to site policies.
- Participate in contract discussions relating to quality activities.
- Prepare comprehensive status reports for construction quality activities.
- Review and approve subcontractors quality procedures and monitor their adherence to those procedures.
- Coordinate the activities of assigned quality control engineers with other construction departments to ensure that construction is in compliance with site specifications and standards.
- Prepare quality procedures to ensure proper inspection, testing and surveillance activities are being performed.
- Provide effective quality training programs and ensure assigned personnel are qualified to perform assigned tasks.
- Prepare performance evaluations of assigned personnel.
Required Qualifications : Education & Experience
Education : Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 8 - 10 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas. An Associate's degree and 10 - 12 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent. A high school diploma and 12 - 16 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent. Certification in areas of responsibility are required with ongoing programmatic training per the requirements of the project quality program.Education & Experience : Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 8 - 10 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas. An AS degree and 10 - 12 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent. A high school diploma and 12 - 16 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.Top Skills & Years of Experience
Well developed organizational and supervisory skills and good communication talents are required.Practical field experience in civil (soils, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, protective coatings) quality control inspections.Ability to develop, review, and implement inspection plans in accordance with technical documents, codes and standards.Competency in reviewing and issuing non-conformance reports and coordinating corrective actions.Strong organizational and communication skills to foster a collaborative and safety-oriented work environment.Experience working under NQA-1 quality assurance programs at DOE facilities.Practical QC inspection field experience within the last 12 months.Nice to Have
QC Certification as Level II or Level IIIFamiliarity with AC308 adhesive anchor requirements and ESR reportsKnowledge of concrete fresh properties test methodsAdditional certifications such as AWS CWI, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector, and ICC Structural Welding Special InspectorHighly knowledgeable in ACI 318 and ACI 349Other Required Qualifications
Work Hours : A 40 hour work week is scheduled. DOE utilizes various work schedules including 5 / 8s (8 hour / day; five days per week), 4 / 10's (10 hours / day; four days per week), and 9 / 80's (9 hours / day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB). Work week excludes DOE holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.Area Security Access : Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.Preferred Qualifications
