Civil Engineer Associate (Promotional)

Overview

The City of El Paso invites experienced civil engineers to join El Paso Water in a promotional associate role under the Capital Improvement Department.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, supervise, direct, design and review civil engineering plans and specifications.

Direct, supervise, and design engineering plans and specifications prepared in-house, and review those prepared by private consultants and contract workers.

Prioritize engineering projects, set deadlines, and coordinate with entities such as the Army Corps of Engineers and utility companies.

Prepare calculations, draft and design plans and specifications, and review construction plans for compliance with environmental protection laws.

Conduct studies of water supply requirements and make recommendations for changes to plans and specifications.

Identify required materials, evaluate costs and prepare estimates.

Provide technical support to other City departments and represent the City in public hearings and City Planning Commission meetings.

Inspect construction projects, enforce safety rules, maintain records, and prepare technical reports.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) and two (2) years of civil engineering experience.

Knowledge of engineering principles and public works construction, including codes, ordinances, and environmental laws.

Proficiency with CADD (Computer-Aided Drafting and Design) tools and construction documentation.

Strong analytical, communication, and supervisory skills.
