POSITION SUMMARY

The Community College of Aurora is looking for an innovative, inclusive, equity-minded, and engaging educator to teach behavioral health and addiction counseling courses through inclusive and student-centered learning strategies both face-to-face and online. CCA is committed to quality instruction and maintains high academic standards as well as a strong commitment to the success of our students. This faculty member will also be responsible for developing and evaluating curriculum that meets state CTE standards, and maintaining current industry connections through professional practice experience. The position requires active professional licensure and recent field experience to ensure students receive relevant, real-world training that prepares them for successful careers in the behavioral health field.

The faculty member will support Concurrent Enrollment instructors through observations, mentorship, and professional development. They will work collaboratively with colleagues across the college, participating in committee assignments and other academic and institutional support activities; CCA is an institution that encourages faculty to be involved in service to the college, including service that contributes to institutional decision-making. This faculty member will contribute to instructional planning and assessment; pursue continued professional development in subject matter and instructional methods; and support student activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty / Student Interaction

  • Classroom Performance

  • Effectively teach 15 credits of Behavioral Health, Counseling, and / or Psychiatric Technician courses per Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Organize subject matter, course materials, and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Maintain knowledge of and enthusiasm for both the subject matter and teaching.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students.
  • Materials and Preparation / Relevancy

  • Maintain current and relevant syllabus, following state guidelines when indicated.
  • Review and update course materials.
  • Use evaluation methods related to and appropriate for course content.
  • Inform students in writing, of the objectives of the course content.
  • Use supplemental resources in addition to textbook or other course materials.
  • Participate in all aspects of department and / or college level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career / technical courses and programs as required.
  • Record Keeping and Instructional Management

  • Keep scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours.
  • Meet classes as scheduled for prescribed time.
  • Submit required reports and documents.
  • Attend required department meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records according to department / division / college expectations and guidelines, including Instructional Guideline 2.11, in the college LMS - Desire2Learn (D2L). Submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines.
  • Professionalism

  • Seek to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Use communication techniques that foster collegiality when problem solving.

  • Contribute to the promotion of an excellent educational climate within the college as a whole, as well as within the division and department.
  • Promoting Division / College Quality of Instruction

  • Assist, as requested, with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.
  • Assist with curriculum review, revision, development and implementation within the department.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.
  • Assist in textbook selection and adoption.
  • Assist with student advising and student registration.
  • Maintain a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assist with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.
  • Engage with Concurrent Enrollment instructors on and off CCA campus;
  • Observations of Concurrent Enrollment instructors on site at local high schools.
  • Provide write-ups and feedback for instructors.
  • Mentor instructors through professional development and meetings.
  • Serve as point of contact for CE instructors.
  • Professional Contributions

  • Complete all required instructional professional development activities including a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during their first semester.
  • Stay current with and implement expectations by reading emails regularly and attending departmental, divisional, and college meetings as called by the Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and President.
  • Understand and uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college, while abiding by all relevant CCA guidelines, and CCCS / SBCCOE policies and procedures.
  • Serve on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
  • Assist with division activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assist with student recruitment as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., hybrid, hyflex, synchronous, asynchronous, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President, and / or the College President.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's Degree in a behavioral health-related profession earned from a regionally accredited institution
  • Eligible for CTE credentialing in the state of Colorado
  • Unencumbered professional license in discipline
  • 2 years full-time within the last 5 years in a mental / behavioral health field
  • Experience teaching in high school, college, OR experience in providing training / psychoeducation in the workplace.
  • Use of computer technology including LMS familiarity, Microsoft Office, and educational technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people from a variety of backgrounds, and willingness to engage in professional development activities to improve understanding and effectiveness of working with racially, culturally, and linguistically varied populations.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Doctorate in a behavioral health-related profession earned from a regionally accredited institution
  • CTE-credentialed in the state of Colorado
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor
  • 3 years full-time within the last 5 years in a mental / behavioral health field
  • 3 years teaching experience
  • Experience with the Office of Behavioral Health regulations
  • SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

    Salary Range : Anticipated salary range : $52,880.78 - $66,052.52 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
