In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.

Nature and Scope

Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Vice President of Institutional and Government Funding serves as a key member of the philanthropy leadership team, working alongside the Vice President of Individual Giving, Director of Development Operations, and Event Manager. This role also provides strategic leadership to a development team that includes the Director of Donor Relations, Grant Manager, Director of Corporate Giving, and Director of Government Funding. The Vice President of Institutional and Government Funding is expected to be both a visionary strategist and a hands-on fundraiser.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to) :

• Build, manage, and strategically expand a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders, identifying new prospects and deepening existing relationships.
• Design and execute a comprehensive strategy to grow and diversify institutional revenue, ensuring the YMCA can expand its impact and serve more people across Metro Atlanta.
• Play a pivotal role in advancing the YMCA's mission by securing significant philanthropic support from corporations, foundations, and government agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Proactively identify and cultivate high-potential donors and grant-making entities through networking, relationship-building, and targeted outreach.
• Lead the development of compelling written materials, including proposals, briefings, solicitation letters, and pledge agreements.
• Oversee the grants management process, ensuring compliance, timely submissions, and consistent stewardship of institutional and government relationships.
• Develop and implement tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies based on prospect research and giving capacity assessments.
• Prepare high-quality presentation materials, talking points, and background research to support leadership in donor and funder meetings.
• Ensure meaningful donor recognition, including acknowledgments, stewardship reports, and customized engagement opportunities.
• Manage and maintain accurate records in the donor management system, including contact reports, proposal tracking, and follow-up actions.
• Represent the YMCA at community events, presentations, and meetings to advance institutional partnerships and visibility.
