Executive Director of Instructional Technology

LOCATION : Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability

SALARY : Administrator Salary Scale

REPORTS TO : Chief Academic Officer

JOB GOAL : The Executive Director of Instructional Technology will provide leadership and direction in the effective use of instructional technology, technology services planning, organization, administration and evaluation as well as the integration of new and emerging technologies to increase efficiencies and productivity within the district. Recommend instructional technology teaching and learning tools to increase student effectiveness and raise student performance levels.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES :

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field; Master’s preferred.
  • Three to five years of classroom experience.
  • Three to five years of successful school based or district level leadership experience.
  • Expertise in the alignment of instructional technology with curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of ISTE Standards, NC Digital Teaching & Learning Competencies, and NC DTL Standards for students.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with faculty, administrators, students, and parents.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Participate in a variety of planning and development activities, including district-wide committees, for the purpose of creating long- and short-term plans
  • Recommend policies, procedures, and / or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district’s student achievement goals and objectives.
  • Research trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and / or purchases.
  • Develop, maintain, and promote the District Technology Plan.
  • Serve as system contact for communication and coordination with the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI) in the area of digital learning.
  • Stay current with trends in education and technology to make recommendations for the direction of district technology.
  • Collaborate with school personnel for strategic planning, to create professional learning communities, and to integrate information and instructional technology into all curricular areas.
  • Collaborate with school level Instructional Technology Facilitators to determine and implement staff development activities to meet established instructional technology integration to support Digital Learning Competencies and Student DTL Standards.
  • Ensure K12 students in Johnston County Public Schools have access to the digital age tools that promote student learning to prepare for college, the workforce, and other life-enhancing opportunities.
  • Provide planning support for the implementation of the NC Digital Learning Initiative (DLI) and local digital learning initiatives that are integrated into the strategic plan.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate staff development programs that enhance the district’s ability to install, support, and maintain all forms of information management and instructional technology.
  • Assess and facilitate the delivery of staff development needs relating to technology use in classrooms and offices throughout the district with particular focus on platforms used to deliver virtual and or remote learning.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to the district in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of effective instructional technology throughout the district.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology related products and solutions to achieve cost effective operations for the district.
  • Manage and maintain online learning programs and software packages for the district and coordinate with the various members of the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and various departments to ensure proper implementation, alignment, usage and compliance with Johnston County Public School’s policy.
  • Provide assistance and leadership in planning the integration of curriculum-based technology in District instructional programs for K-12 teachers, media specialists and students.
  • Meet with individual teachers and small faculty groups to discuss curriculum, suggest ways to use technology in delivery of curriculum, and to support teachers as they actively use technology in their classrooms.
  • Coordinate the purchase, installation, support, networking, maintenance and repair of technological equipment and systems for instructional areas.
  • Compile data for and prepares a variety of records and reports as required by the District, schools and / other agencies for general reporting and / or decision-making purposes.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development plan for the use of instructional technology.
  • Facilitate staff development to teachers and administrators in methods of involving technology in the delivery of curriculum.
  • Develop and implement a continuing evaluation of the instructional technology program and implement changes based on the findings.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and revision of policies and procedures regarding technology issues.
  • Facilitate monthly Teacher Advisory Council meetings for JCPS.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff and community leaders.
  • Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reading, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing hearing and repetitive motion.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
