Salary : Range $5,909 to $11,209 monthly commensurate with experience

Overview

Plans, supervises, coordinates and evaluates the activities of Yard Maintenance Workers engaged in a variety of yard maintenance tasks such as planting, caring for flowers, shrubs, trees, raking of leaves, tending lawns, removal of trees, maintaining irrigation, removal of snow and ice from walkways, driveways and parking areas etc.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Supervises staff of Yard Maintenance Workers utilizing crew supervisors involved in maintenance and upkeep of the Capitol Complex, Outlying Buildings, Chicago Facilities, and Dirksen Parkway Facility grounds including pruning trees and shrubs, mowing grounds, planting and caring for flower beds, sow removal and cleaning up debris and trash from grounds.
• Prepares plans for landscaping, maintenance and beautification of grounds; consults with outside nurseries and horticultural advisors as well as various landscaping vendors and makes recommendations to supervisor on short- and long-term landscaping planning; prepares and submits budget for approval in regard to materials needed for landscaping and maintenance.
• Evaluates and supervises the use of insecticides, fertilizers, herbicidal spraying and other treatments for the prevention and eradication of plant and tree disease and for the control of weeds.
• Ensures adequate staff coverage to meet emergency snow removal situations and to cover peak summer growing periods.
• Supervises the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment utilized by crews and ensures adequate equipment and supply maintenance to provides services.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
