Job Summary :
Directs all paramedical activities and total nursing care delivered within the Department of Surgical Services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing. The Director is accountable and held responsible for directing the staff in managing the clinical care course of treatment for many patients. Coordination of care is accomplished through collaboration with physicians, associate staff, and other health care providers to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved within the projected course of treatment using the nursing process. Helps establish and implement standards of care, policy, protocols, and procedures, and interprets to the entire staff, patients, families, and the community. Requires promoting and adhering to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Incorporates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all ages while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

- Consistently evaluates the practices of care delivered to patients and adjusts care according to established standards of practice and the physician’s orders.

- Is competent to access and utilize the EMR for the provision of patient care
- Implements appropriate policies and procedures, hires and maintains qualified staff, and ensures ongoing education per the latest standards of care.
- Ensures optimal patient quality of care by ongoing education and monitoring of OASCAHPS and Quality goals
- Incorporates knowledge and skill to safely and appropriately fulfill job-specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials, life safety, and utility systems as outlined in the hospital’s environment of care plan
- Exhibits promotion and adherence to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standard of Conduct, and regulatory standards
- Responsible for adhering to budgetary guidelines and staffing productivity
- Stays abreast of all guidelines, protocols, and best practice advisories from the State System of Care Plans
- Develop and implement protocols, policies, and procedures based upon best practices and evidence-based studies
- Will hold staff accountable for delivering safe, quality care based upon nursing practice guidelines as well as established protocols, policies, and procedures
- Facilitates cooperation between staff and physicians and works to resolve any issues and barriers.
- Demonstrates ability to manage the Surgery Board as required, including making assignments and adjusting the dynamic workflow.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, and professional and regulatory standards, including quality assurance and licensure requirements, policies, procedures, and moral and ethical codes.
- Maintains and applies current knowledge regarding applicable regulatory standards for safe patient care.
- Actively participates in the monitoring / corrective action process to meet respective targets.
- Evaluates capital requests against revenue statistics.
- Collaborates with hospital administration in policy formation, program, and capital planning.
- Leads in the development of policies, procedures, and quality targets to ensure effective and efficient service, quality patient care, and compliance with hospital standards, external licensing, accreditation, and regulatory bodies.
- Oversees or performs staffing hiring.
- Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve the department's goals.
- Champions the development and growth of safety culture.
- Participates in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines.
- Complies with the departmental and facility policy.

- The spreading of rumors and gossip creates unnecessary turmoil, weakens working relationships, and is contrary to the spirit of the hospital, and is prohibited.

Qualifications : Education / Skills
Graduate of a recognized RN program. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Work Experience :
At least three years of recent experience working in Surgical Services or Critical Care is preferred

Analytical ability is required to assess current systems and practices, interpret market share and “gaps,” research best practices, and facilitate the involvement of others in developing suitable remedies. Numerical ability is required to evaluate quality improvement, market improvement, and financial improvement statistical data. Above-average written and verbal skills are needed to effectively communicate complex concepts and statistical data to people at all levels of the organization and community. Must be able to handle stressful situations effectively.
