Nurse Manager
The Nurse Manager supervises, directs nursing care, and all related activities, in a designated area according to policies, procedures, mission and objectives of MUSC Health. The MUSC Orangeburg Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center with 43 treatment areas. We are also a level II SAFE designation. We proudly serve the surrounding communities of Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg, and Barnwell counties for all their acute healthcare needs.
The Nurse Manager (NM) reports to the ED Director. The manager is responsible for overall assessment, strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in assigned areas. The NM supports the achievement of optimal department; Integrated Clinical Centers of Excellence (ICCE) and Medical Center goals and promotes shared governance structure and process. This will be achieved through the creation and maintenance of a practice environment that leads to the achievement of desired clinical, staffing, quality, financial outcomes and operational efficiency, as well as individualized, age specific needs of patients. The NM fosters an environment of collaboration and respects all members of MUSC Health System and will provide departmental call coverage as required.
Work Environment : Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illnesses). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
Oversees daily operations providing supervision of the Clinical Unit Leaders, licensed nurses, and unlicensed unit staff. May indirectly supervise others as needed.

Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of the job. To perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to :
Sit, walk, stand, use your hands, reach, stoop, talk, hear, and smell. Lift or exert energy up to 50 pounds 25% of the time, up to 100 pounds 50% of the time, and more than 100 pounds 25% of the time.
Maintain close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) and distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up / down or left / right) and depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances).
Mental Requirements :
Possesses the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations. Able to write reports, correspondence, and / or manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff.
Able to perform math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide), and perform more complex math functions to include calculating percentages, averages, volume, ratio, and interpreting graphs using numbers, money, and units of measure.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Deals with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal, and written instructions.
Population Served : cultural and age specific competencies : This position interacts with all age groups and provides direct / indirect patient care. Each staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
Staff members must be able to understand and respond to the expectations and needs of patients, family members and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds.
