Job Summary

Inpatient Genetic Counselor with the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz (Denver, CO) supports the clinical activities of the Inpatient Genetics and Metabolism Service and provides independent genetic counseling in support of genetic and molecular testing requested by other specialties for inpatients at CHCO. The role includes teaching and supervision of trainees, meeting with families of patients that died to provide postmortem testing support, and engaging in teaching (5% of effort) and genetic counseling (95% of time) within the Department of Pediatrics, Genetics, and Metabolism.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a genetic counselor for inpatients with suspected genetic disorders and inborn errors of metabolism.
• Provide independent genetic counseling and technical information to patients, families, and healthcare providers in a comprehensive, nondirective manner.
• Teach in one to two courses per semester, including GENC 6150 Congenital Malformations and Disorders of the Newborn and GENC 6211 Professional Issues in Genetic Counseling II.
• Supervise and educate genetic residents, medical students, pediatric residents, and genetic counseling students, including bedside teaching on the Inpatient Rotation.
• Coordinate and facilitate testing for optimal patient care, including rapid testing options.
• Provide follow-up counseling and care for discharged families and families of deceased infants and children.
• Enhance the Pediatric Genetics Inpatient Service by offering expertise in testing and result interpretation.
• Collaborate with other pediatric inpatient services to provide genetic counseling expertise, allowing other specialists to work at the top of scope.

Compensation

Anticipated pay range : $88,500.00 – $126,000.00 per year.
