Service Worker I

The Service Worker I performs routine and specific manual work at a variety of city facilities for the assigned division. This position accomplishes a variety of maintenance and repair tasks utilizing a variety of tools and specialized equipment. This work is performed under close supervision the incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions; work is checked frequently and is reviewed through observation, completion of work orders, and review of results achieved.

Essential functions include :

• Perform a wide range of semi-skilled labor related to the maintenance of City parks and properties, as assigned.
• Install and maintain landscape vegetation, including turf, hedges, and raised and / or hanging planters.
• Load and unload equipment and supplies.
• Install, repair, and clean park equipment and amenities.
• Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles such as trucks, carts, pressure washers, mechanized lawn or irrigation equipment.
• Operate a variety of hand, power, and small engine tools.
• Perform minor maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
• Assist with herbicide applications and vegetation management tasks.
• Install and maintain lake markers and perform aquatic weed control.
• Assist with the construction and cleaning of storm drain leaf traps and other storm water management systems.
