About the Role
As a Fiber Foreman at xAI's Memphis data center, you'll take the lead overseeing the installation and maintenance of critical fiber optic systems. Working onsite with dedicated teams and collaborators, you'll tackle complex challenges to ensure our network infrastructure runs flawlessly, meeting the demands of a high-growth tech environment. Expect to guide your crew, streamline workflows, and keep connectivity rock-solid to power xAI's mission of advancing human scientific discovery through AI.
This is an in-person role based in Memphis, Tennessee, with approximately 20% travel required.
Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the Project Manager and Superintendent, crew leader responsible for datacenter installation projects and daily work assignments based on Fiber Span sheets, path determination, and team communication
- Provide on the job training and direction for employees working under you
- Ensure a safe and productive work environment
- Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections, so that a faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance
- Troubleshoot, resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems, ensuring that they work properly
- Examine and replace faulty and / or old fiber optic cables
- Organize scheduled maintenance routines
- Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas
- Keep track of the signal strength of different devices
- Formulate and maintain system records and system designs
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of experience managing teams (preferably data center cabling technicians)3+ years of direct data center experience installing and routing optical fiber in large scale Tier 3 or 4 facilitiesHigh school diploma or equivalency certificatePreferred Skills & Experience
Certification in fiber optics and / or cable installationExtensive experience in fiber splicingTechnical knowledge of communication networksKnowledgeable of computers and associated electronic systemsKnowledgeable of different fiber typesExperience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environmentsExperience installing structured cablingHighly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probesAble to understand different types of switches and port identificationsAble to properly clean fiber and validate cleanlinessAbility to use judgment and analytical skills in complex installationsAbility to prioritize and use time management practices as well as prioritize tasks based on fluctuating needsAbility to adapt, make decisions, problem solve, and collaborate efficiently under pressureExperience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams, Project, etc)Additional Requirements
