ROI Specialist – Medical Records

Location  Prosper, TX | Onsite

Compensation & Schedule

  • $18–20 / hr (Depending on Experience)
  • Monday–Friday, 1pm–5pm
  • W2, Temporary (Possibly Temp-to-Hire)

ROLE IMPACT

The ROI Specialist supports patient care and legal compliance by processing medical record release requests in strict alignment with HIPAA and institutional policies. This role is crucial to safeguarding patient privacy, delivering exceptional service to requesters, and maintaining seamless documentation workflows in a busy healthcare environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process and validate all Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with HIPAA, legal, and hospital guidelines
  • Respond to patient and third-party inquiries via phone, email, and walk-in interactions, including support with MyChart access
  • Manage documentation for RAC, OIG, and legal audits including subpoenas and court orders; may involve court appearances
  • Accurately track release activities in EMR systems and provide general administrative / front desk support as needed
  • Foster respectful communication with attorneys, insurers, and healthcare professionals while upholding patient confidentiality

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ experience in ROI within a hospital HIM or large clinic setting
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA and medical record disclosure laws

    • CORE TOOLS & SYSTEMS

  • EMR platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
  • Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS)

    • PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Court appearance experience related to medical records
  • Proven ability to work independently in fast-paced healthcare environments
