Job description
Century Group is partnering with a client that is seeking a Tax Specialist to join their team. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Expected starting base salary of $80,000 to $100,000 per year.
Job responsibilities:
  • Classify products accurately into the correct excise tax categories across multiple product types.
  • Maintain and update tax mapping within ERP systems to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Prepare and file excise tax returns for all applicable jurisdictions and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Use tax compliance software to reconcile and file state sales tax returns while ensuring product taxability accuracy.
  • Manage licensing processes, including applications, renewals, and amendments for federal, state, and local requirements.
Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience with excise tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with sales tax processes and tax compliance software such as Avalara AvaTax.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including handling large datasets.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and ability to maintain accurate tax mapping.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of excise tax laws, PACT Act requirements, and licensing regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and communicate effectively with external agencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for handling complex tax scenarios.
  • Previous experience in managing compliance for high-volume product categories.
