Job description

Law Enforcement Position

Help Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.

Serve as a police patrol officer enforcing Federal criminal laws and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property.

Protect government property, materials, and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage, and espionage.

Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons.

Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc.

Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation.

Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.

Conditions Of Employment

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.

The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

This position has been designated Mission Essential.

This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.

Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.

Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56 within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.

This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and / or protective clothing and equipment.

This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.

This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete the US Army Civilian Police Academy program within 12 months of hire / or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56 / or have a current approved waiver from (OPMG).

Incumbent must be able to successfully pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.

Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Qualifications

Credit for prior non-Federal work experience and certain military service for determining annual leave accrual rate may be authorized.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and / or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

For GS-5 : Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes : 1) Experience applying a body of basic laws and regulations; 2) Assisting with law enforcement operations practices and / or techniques; and 3) Maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-04). (Note : Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.)

OR Education : Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position, such as Criminal Justice.

OR Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.

For GS-6 : Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes : 1) Maintaining order and protecting life; 2) Responding to citizens in emergency / non-emergency situations; and 3) Protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-05).

For GS-7 : Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes : 1) Performing law enforcement investigation in accordance with established policies and procedures; 2) Collecting / preserving evidence for an investigation; and 3) Preparing statements concerning incidents such as accidents or law violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

Foreign Education : If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
