Traffic Sign Maintenance Technician
Performs regular maintenance of signs in assigned Seminole County Commission District. Fabricates, maintains, and installs various highway signing in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device Standards, and documents all work utilizing the Maintstar program.
Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Additional compensation based on licensure.
Essential Functions :
- Fabricates and installs traffic signs; repairs and cleans traffic signs.
- Assists in layout of roadway markings and applies pavement markings according to approved plans.
- Establishes work zone for maintenance of traffic and monitors condition.
- Operates a variety of power tools as needed for fabrication and installation of roadway signs and application of roadway pavement markings.
- Performs daily care and maintenance of shop and field equipment.
- Completes field reviews and accurately generates work orders for signs and markings.
Additional Duties :
Performs after-hours on-call duties on a rotating basis; answers phone calls.Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.Minimum Qualifications :
Completion of high school / GED and six (6) months of experience required. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.Must maintain a valid Florida driver's license, Class E. Ability to obtain intermediate M.O.T., State of Florida.Must possess or be able to obtain certification in IMSA Work Zone Safety and IMSA Level I Sign and Markings. Must possess the ability to obtain an IMSA Level II Sign & Markings certification within twelve (12) months of employment.Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Knowledge of computer applications desirable.Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and / or accounting purposes.Knowledge needed to operate more complex and technical computer applications, such as Corel Draw, data input, pictometry.Ability to use or repair small / light equipment, such as power tools, and medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles.Ability to lift more than 60 pounds.Additional Requirements :
Must possess the ability to determine the appropriate approach for doing work, given general guidelines.Must possess the ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires the incumbent to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.Must possess the ability to perform work that necessitates some specialized knowledge of clerical or trades-based tasks. Some of the typical responsibilities include gathering, formatting, or visually analyzing data OR operating construction or warehouse equipment (moving vans, fork lift).Knowledge of computer applications, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (M.U.T.C.D.) and industry standards for layout and placement of roadway signs, and pavement markings.Field maintenance requires working alone using the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices as a guide for making decisions for proper location, size and scheduling. Slight variances may occur due to sight obstructions, sidewalks, etc. and decisions must be made on the spot for proper installations. At times, more than one technician is required due to volume of work, directing traffic etc.Must be able to obtain fork lift driver's certificate; performs basic fork lift operations.Ability to assist in the loading and unloading of materials and equipment upon delivery.Ability to use handheld GPS unit for data collection.
