Job description

Director, Compliance

Tishman Speyer creates vibrant destinations and dynamic environments that inspire innovation and connected communities. As a diversified developer, operator, and investment manager of top-tier real estate in 33 markets across the globe, our business choices are driven by the belief that real estate should unlock human potential. Tishman Speyer's diversified portfolio spans market rate and affordable residential communities, premier office properties and retail spaces, industrial facilities, and mixed-use campuses. We create state-of-the-art life science centers through our Breakthrough Properties joint venture, and foster innovation through our strategic proptech investments. By combining global perspective with local expertise, and a personalized approach, we are able to anticipate our customers' evolving needs. We were the first real estate company to introduce asset-wide amenity services through our ZO platform, and the first traditional real estate company to create its own flexible space and coworking brand, Studio.

Since our founding in 1978, Tishman Speyer has acquired, developed, and operated 576 properties, totaling 233 million square feet, with a combined value of over $131 billion (U.S.). Tishman Speyer currently has approximately $65 billion in assets under management, including iconic properties such as New York City's Rockefeller Center, So Paulo's Torre Norte, The Springs in Shanghai, Paris Bourse in Paris and Frankfurt's OpernTurm and TaunusTurm.

Position Summary

The Director, Compliance will work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to support key components of Tishman Speyer's global compliance program, with a heavy focus on the review of U.S. marketing materials. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert providing practical, business-oriented compliance guidance across multiple functions.

The ideal candidate is an independent, proactive professional with strong analytical, risk mitigation, and judgment skills, capable of balancing commercial objectives with regulatory integrity. This role requires excellent communication and relationship management skills to effectively partner with senior leadership, investment teams, and employees at all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Advertising Compliance

  • Serve as the central reviewer for US marketing and investor-facing materials, including presentations, pitchbooks, PPM excerpts, case studies, fact sheets, website content, and other external communications.
  • Verify that all materials meet regulatory standards under the Advisers Act, with particular attention to the Marketing Rule, performance advertising, case study usage, and required disclosures.
  • Coordinate with investment teams to ensure materials are accurate, consistent, and updated promptly.
  • Maintain templates, required disclosure language, and documentation of the review process.
  • Track updates to the marketing rule, industry guidance, and relevant regulatory developments; help translate them into practical requirements for business partners.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic training on marketing compliance expectations for internal teams.
  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing marketing-related compliance policies and procedures.

Code Of Ethics & Personal Trading Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day administration of the firm's Code of Ethics, including review of personal trading requests and monitoring for potential issues.
  • Help maintain and update the firm's restricted and watch lists based on investment activity, NDAs and potential MNPI concerns.
  • Review quarterly and annual certifications, employee attestations, and documentation of Code of Ethics compliance.
  • Review employee private investment requests, outside business activity disclosures, and potential conflicts and escalate as appropriate.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of employee participation in private placements or outside investments to ensure compliance with firm policy.
  • General Compliance Support

  • Assist with regulatory filings, exam readiness, and responses to information requests.
  • Help maintain compliance calendars and documentation.
  • Participate in special projects and support broader compliance initiatives.
  • About You

    Bachelors degree required, J.D. preferred

36+ years of regulatory compliance experience in investment management, preferably at a private equity, real estate adviser or government agency.

Strong working knowledge of the Advisers Act, especially the Marketing Rule and performance advertising requirements.

Experience reviewing marketing materials or supporting investor relations compliance processes.

Familiarity with Code of Ethics programs, personal trading systems, conflicts reviews, and private placement oversight.

Exceptional attention to detail, strong writing skills, and the ability to identify issues quickly and clearly.

Strong organization and project-management skills; ability to handle high volumes of material with tight timelines.

Collaborative and proactive team member with the confidence to interact with business partners.

  • Onsite presence is required for this position.
  • The base compensation range for this role is $140,000- $170,000. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, as well as access to our comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan (with matching contributions), wellness benefits and all other benefits afforded to full-time Tishman Speyer employees. This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and / or licensure required of an individual in this particular role.
