Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med / Surg Tele RN with a NY license, BLS, and Epic experience for a high-acuity unit.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Med / Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes cardiac, pulmonary, pain, gastrointestinal, infection, and uncontrolled diabetes cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 5 : 1 on day / evening shifts (may stretch to 6-7 : 1), and 6-7 : 1 on nights (may stretch to 8-10 : 1 if needed)
  • Unit is supported by PCTs for vitals, blood glucose, EKGs, and ADLs
  • Phlebotomy team responsible for peripheral lab draws; nurses manage PICC and central lines
  • Special equipment used includes bladder scanners, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, and Lifepacks
  • Uses Epic for electronic charting; Epic experience required
  • Night shift schedule with four 12-hour shifts (19 : 00–07 : 00)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating required to like units, including ED boarders, stable ICU, med / surg, and acute brain injury units
  • No on-call requirements
  • Responsible for management of patients with complex medical and telemetry needs
  • Expected to manage rapid response situations and various oxygen delivery devices
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team supported by PCTs and phlebotomy services
  • Scrub requirement is any combination of navy and white
  • No more than one week of requested time off allowed per contract
  • Testing modules required before start, with up to 5 hours billable
  • Floating may include care for stable patients in ICU and acute brain injury units
  • Holiday coverage may be required as scheduled

    • Requirements

  • Active NY RN license in hand
  • Minimum 1 year of recent MS / Tele experience
  • BLS certification required
  • Proficiency in Epic EMR required
  • Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, rapid response team usage, peripheral line care and management
  • Experience with nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen tank, and non-invasive airway management
  • Ability to follow isolation precautions
  • No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius
