Position Overview

KSL TV is seeking a dynamic investigative producer who questions those in power, holds government accountable, exposes corruption, helps consumers solve problems, and provides viewers with the information they need to be informed citizens. The candidate should have experience with government records requests, data journalism, and media law. The producer will conceptualize, research, and write high-impact investigative stories with strong storytelling and follow-ups, as part of the KSL Investigators team. Professionalism in skill, attitude, and commitment is expected.

What You Will Do

• Collaborate with managers, photographers, editors, and graphic designers to write and produce highly visual, compelling investigative stories of high quality.
• Develop a network of sources to break investigative stories with community impact and add context to breaking news.
• Mine tips, sources, data, and public records requests to identify issues of local significance with a focus on solutions.
• Regularly enterprise and pitch investigative story ideas while pursuing assigned stories.
• Write for multiple on-air investigative team members and ensure stories are accurate, ethical, complete, fair, and well-documented in coordination with managers and the legal team.
• Conduct interviews, gather information, log and organize footage, arrange graphics, and supervise editing.
• Meet all story deadlines and work effectively in a team environment with reporters, photographers, and editors.
• Innovate elements to showcase investigations across broadcast, web, and social media platforms.
• Balance long-term investigations with short-term consumer or data-driven stories and new angles on breaking news and major events.
• Demonstrate editorial judgment, and knowledge of journalism ethics and laws, including access to records and information.
• Provide investigative research support to team members as needed.

Compensation

$60,000 – $80,000. Salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and internal equity.
