We are currently seeking and Underwriter to join our corporate team. This position reports to the Manager, Underwriting Operations and is hybrid / remote office position. The pay range is $63,000 - $66,000 base salary.
The Underwriter is responsible for using complex underwriting concepts to determine rate development for all group UW cases. The Underwriter will apply current models to rate development, make recommendations and participate in the refinement and expansion of these models. This includes establishing and applying company protocols, following commercial medical underwriting guidelines. Additional responsibilities include :
- Analyze health information from group applicants using commercially consistent underwriting guidelines.
- Manage communication of underwriting requirements and decisions with appropriate sales team members.
- Proficiently use department underwriting software and analyze rating software methods to make recommendations for expansions or other improvements.
- Review the competitive position of quotes and develop mechanisms for financial comparisons.
- Assist with training assistant personnel in department process and practice relative to group underwriting and mentor junior level team members.
- Track exception provisions with financial implications to the company.
- Direct compilation of all data necessary for audit of department activities.
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international insurance laws and regulations.
- Document department activities and develop with supervisor input UW guidelines for department control processes.
- Coordinate salesforce changes / fixes / enhancements under the direction of the Director – Underwriting Operations.
- Represent underwriting as a subject matter expert for projects.
Requirements :
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of experience with health insurance underwriting procedures. We also seek :
