Job description

Superintendent, Idaho Department Of Juvenile Corrections

The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) is currently recruiting for a Superintendent / Facility Administrator. This position is responsible for oversight of facility, administrative, supportive and programmatic functions of a juvenile correctional facility, and will also act as a liaison and representative with community partners and outside stakeholders. This is a full-time position located at our facility in Lewiston, Idaho.

Responsibilities include :

  • Responsible for high-level management of IDJCs long-term, residential, juvenile correctional facility.
  • Direct supervision of six team members.
  • Works closely with our Education Program to support youth in our on-site school, Juniper Hills.
  • Serves as the regional representative for the Department during various meetings within the community.
  • Interviews, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
  • Manages and monitors a facility budget ranging from $2.4 to $7.3 million.
  • Ensures compliance with the Juvenile Corrections Act, laws, rules, Federal PREA Regulations and Governor executive orders.
  • Ensures juveniles are provided appropriate rehabilitative, medical, religious, and food services.
  • Oversees all aspects of juvenile placements.
  • Reports on facility operations and special projects to IDJC Leadership, and state and community partners.

Minimum qualifications include :

  • Experience with the juvenile justice system.
  • Experience working with counties, courts, and other statewide organizations.
  • Overseeing a large employee workforce.
  • Directly supervising professional staff.
  • Analyzing management and operational problems.
  • Experience with the Balanced Approach and Restorative Justice model for juvenile populations.

    • Preferred qualifications include :

  • Bachelors degree or higher in public and / or criminal justice administration and at least five years experience in the juvenile justice system.
  • Experience in supervision or administration of a large, secure, youth correctional facility.
  • Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of government.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer multifaceted programs and services.
  • Demonstrated, strong leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated, strong communication skills.
