Med / Surg RN Job Details

Location : Alexandria, VA 22306 (Northern Virginia healthcare jobs)

Assignment Length : 13 weeks (travel nursing contract)

Employment Type : Travel, On-Site

Shift : 12-hour day shifts

Hours per Week : 36

Start Date : December 8, 2025

Estimated Weekly Salary : $1740 - $1860

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification – required before first shift

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification – required before first shift

Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg bedside clinical experience

Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for medical-surgical patients

Provide high-quality, patient-centered care following hospital protocols and safety standards

Supervise and mentor Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and new staff

Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record

Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals during team conferences

Initiate discharge planning and patient education from admission

Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to hospital safety policies

Promote a positive, team-oriented unit culture and contribute to team building

Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed after orientation

Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing nursing education
