About The Position

Unit Details — CTICU / CVICU

Beds : 24

Certifications : BLS, ACLS required; CCRN preferred. ICU experience required, CVICU preferred.

Ratios : 1 : 1–1 : 2 (high number of 1 : 1 patients).

EMR : Cerner

Charge Nurse : Yes, no patient assignment.

Nurse Aides : 2 PCTs days and nights with high census.

Weekend Requirement : 3 shifts per 4-week schedule

Holidays : Work into rotation

Scrub Color : Navy

Telemetry : Phillips

Hospitalist / Intensivist Coverage : Intensivist on-site during days, on-call at night

IV Team : None — strong IV skills required

Respiratory Therapy : 24 / 7 coverage

Pharmacy : 24 / 7; transplant patients utilized

Shifts : 7a–7p

Impellas, IABP, CRRT

Lung transplant, thoracic surgery

ECMO

Esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy

Job Requirements

General Requirements

Medical Solutions pre-screens; if clinical recommends, sends to manager for approval to offer — no second interview .

50-mile radius rule — no local rates; source of truth is driver’s license (include in submission).

Must have Level I trauma experience .

Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance ; 2 attempts allowed. Failure = DNU for 6 months within CS AZ and Sac Region.

Travel teams must have their own vehicles .

Appearance requirements : natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit test.

Day 1 pass / fail exam — details to follow.

SIMs Lab (Day 1)

All RNs complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes.

Exceptions :

NyICU : Foley catheter insertion only.

ED : Foley catheter insertion; port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change.

Pass / fail ; nurses have been terminated for breaking sterile field.

Travelers must demonstrate competency in sterile technique — if not competent, likely not a good fit.

Additional educational components : lifts, restraints, wound care (equipment / policies vary by facility).

Weekend Requirement : 3 shifts per 4-week schedule

Holidays : Work into rotation

Floating

Float to other ICUs and all Tele units — patient ratio 4 : 1 on tele.

Travelers float first before permanent staff .

Floating may include Westgate campus if requested.

Additional Notes

Very high-acuity unit.

Travelers with IABP and CABG experience are preferred.

Extensive hands-on procedural experience required.
