The General Labor position is an individual contributor responsible for performing various non-technical tasks throughout the plant including operation of cranes, forklifts or simple machinery. Essential functions include assisting other workers, keeping other workers supplied with material, tools and supplies, performing routing machine operations, setup and operation of a variety of grinding machines, and operator inspections on crane and forklift.
Important details about the role include setup, operation, and general maintenance of equipment, accountability for essential tools and equipment, active participation in department safety, and adherence to all Valmont safety policies and procedures. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Required qualifications include the ability to run a floor sweeper, calculate simple mathematics, read a tape measure, recognize and solve practical problems or issues, work in a team environment, pay attention to detail, lift up to 50 pounds, become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of a forklift and scissor lift, maintain a safe and productive working environment, and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facility.
Highly qualified candidates will also possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, six (6) months previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, one (1) year previous experience operating hand and / or power tools, the ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner, the ability to identify and communicate maintenance or product problems to departmental supervision, and demonstrate a commitment to safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
Working conditions and physical efforts include working in an indoor shop environment, exposure to all hazards located at manufacturing sites, and the need to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment.
