Job Overview
The Estimating Manager – Electrical Projects leads the estimating and preconstruction function for AMCON’s strategic electrical projects. Reporting to the Vice President of Electrical Projects, this role ensures the development of accurate, competitive, and profitable estimates through disciplined processes, team leadership, and strategic collaboration. The Estimating Manager is responsible for bid strategy, pricing accuracy, and oversight of all estimating activities to support AMCON’s continued growth and operational excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leadership, Management, and Accountability
- Lead and mentor the estimating team, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with company goals and client expectations.
- Foster a culture of accountability and collaboration through clear processes, team development, and proactive communication. Ensure accurate and up-to-date estimate ledger to coordinate with Vice President for pipeline management.
- Estimate Development and Review
- Oversee preparation, review, and approval of electrical project estimates, ensuring all scopes, quantities, and labor factors are complete and accurate.
- Validate final estimate assumptions, risks, and inclusions prior to submission and turnover to operations.
- Complete technical estimates on challenging or strategic projects including takeoffs, bid solicitation, and pricing analysis.
- Process and Systems Management
- Establish and maintain standardized estimating procedures, templates, and cost databases to ensure consistent project pricing and analysis. Manage estimating system functions, database, and information.
- Evaluate historical cost data, productivity factors, and market conditions to strengthen bid accuracy and competitiveness.
- Lead changes developed from after action project review with Project Management team to improve profitability and performance.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure reliable pricing and scope coverage.
- Oversee bid solicitations, scope reviews, and qualification processes to maintain AMCON’s standards of quality and performance.
- Strategic and Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with business development and operations leadership to align bid strategies with company goals and market opportunities.
- Provide technical expertise and support during design development, value engineering, and preconstruction planning.
- Support growth and develop trade knowledge within estimating team members.
- Project Handoff and Support
- Ensure thorough estimate-to-project handoffs with project management and field leadership teams.
- Support the transition from preconstruction to operations to set projects up for success in safety, schedule, and profitability.
Requirements
7+ years of electrical estimating experience, including 3+ years leading teams or major bidsProven success estimating industrial, mission-critical, or large commercial electrical projectsStrong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and construction methodsProficient in estimating software (Accubid, Trimble, etc.) and Microsoft Excel; Procore or Bluebeam experience a plusExcellent leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and consistencyDriven by integrity, accountability, and teamwork — aligned with AMCON’s values : All In Every Day, Better Together, Cultivate Trust, and Daily DisciplineBenefits
