Primary Responsibilities :

• Installs repairs (down to component level as required) and adjusts or replaces defective communications equipment.
• Tests faulty communications equipment isolates and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems in order to diagnose cause of malfunction.
• Receives and understands schematics and technical diagrams to troubleshoot and repair radios.
• Performs operational checks.
• Makes and removes connections on wire distributing frames and solders or splices to terminal lugs, following diagrams.
• Tests equipment to verify adequacy of repair for installation. Positions switching and power apparatus to be installed according to floor plans.
• Connects outgoing and incoming lines to switching equipment, data processing equipment, and other kinds of communication equipment following diagrams.
• Operates motor cars and / or hi-rail vehicles to get to the work site.
• Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits reports indicating truck condition.
• Loads and unloads truck with the assistance of co-workers, if available.
• Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects.
• Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates communications equipment according to specifications.
• Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests.
• Remains alert to proper functioning of testing equipment and calibrates when possible.
• Runs cables in ceilings and underground. Install feeder lines on poles, in tunnels and sewers, and attach appliances, such as terminal boxes and repeaters. Unreels and strings lines from pole to pole and from pole to building, installs hardware such as conduits and insulators, and attaches appliances on lines.
• Receives instructions, requests, orders or information in person or by communications devices such as radio and telephone.
• Performs all job duties in accordance with company rules and specifications in a safe manner.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to respond and attend trouble calls after hours and / or weekends.
