Job Summary :
Performs routine & highly
specialized diagnostic & therapeutic interventional radiology
procedures on patients following established parameters / protocols
for use by physicians in diagnosis & treatment of pathologies
under general supervision.
Essential Responsibilities :
Operates extremely technical imaging equipment and
applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with
standard operating procedures, according to departmental policies,
procedures / protocols and as appropriate for the particular patient.
Performs diagnostic & therapeutic
procedures, utilizing image-guided surgical procedures, sterile
technique and radiographic technique.
Uses
proper radiation safety measures to conform to the ALARA principle
according to departmental Radiation Safety Policies &
Procedures.
Operates laser imagers, and
Radiographic / Fluoroscopic equipment to obtain radiographic
images.
Critiques radiographs for quality
and accuracy.
Reviews history and pertinent
images with designated Interventional Radiologist to assure
appropriate application of procedure.
Assists physicians with specialized diagnostic and interventional
procedures by handling equipment, preparing procedure and
instrument trays, prepping and explaining procedures to patients
and other related tasks under the supervision of an Interventional
Radiologist.
Uses EKG equipment, Intravenous
pumps, Blood Pressure equipment, pulse oximeter and related routine
equipment to maintain continuous patient care while patient is
undergoing procedure.
Prepares radiopaque
materials for administration by Radiologist.
Opens contrast material, maintaining integrity of the sterile
syringes, needles, and draws-up contrast for injection in
accordance with departmental procedures.
Demonstrates basic competencies in processing images and
troubleshooting. Performs minor trouble shooting operations.
Initiates calls for equipment problems.
Communicates effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians,
particularly regarding information on angiography procedures
requiring specialized patient preparation.
Communicates with clinicians regarding patient preparation for
angiography / interventional procedures, procedure results and to
assist in resolving problems as needed.
Maintains proper documentation for internal and external Regulatory
compliance.
Maintains pertinent patient and
procedure documentation in Kaiser Medical Record Systems such as
Centricity, KP Health Connect, etc., as applicable.
Assists in maintaining perpetual inventory count and
scans product not in inventory systems.
Assists in maintaining a smooth operational flow & maximum
patient volume.
Assumes many roles within an
interventional procedure : Scrubs in & assists the physician in
the surgical procedures. Circulates w / in the procedure room &
procure all equipment needed for any given procedure. Positions the
patient, select radiation exposure parameters & image the
patient. Maintains a high degree of accuracy & an awareness of
all radiation & patient safety issues involved w / any invasive
procedure. Demonstrates a thorough understanding & working
knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy & physiology,
radiation safety, interventional supplies & equipment
operation. Recognizes & resolves equipment operations.
Recognizes & resolves equipment problems & discrepancies
anticipate patient needs & concerns, & determines the
appropriate care needed.
Uses professional
judgment & critical thinking when performing procedures.
Performs other related duties as directed.

Basic
Qualifications : Experience
Minimum three (3) years
of recent (within the last 12 months) experience as a Radiologic
Technologist in a hospital supporting flouroscopy and
c-arm / surgical procedures.
Education
Graduate of a certified / accredited ARRT program
required.
High school diploma or GED
required.

Additional Requirements :
Ability to perform all phases of Interventional
Radiologic procedures including assisting as an IR scrub tech
Demonstrated ability to perform all
procedures and processes as determined by the employer
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions,
short correspondence, and memos. Ability to walk simple
correspondence.
Effectively present
information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers,
clients and other incumbents of the organization.
Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and
practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection
and physics, and radiographic positioning.
Ability to operate all radiology equipment, such as, radiographic
machines, radiographic / fluoroscopic machines, Interventional
Radiology associated equipment, associated surgical equipment, and
image processors
Demonstrate ability and
knowledge of age specific competency in providing care to the
patient.
Consistently demonstrates the
knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide
superior and culturally sensitive service to internal and external
customers.
Proficiency in the use of
applicable computer software.
Knowledge of
