Job Summary :
Our client in Novi is looking for a Passive Safety Engineer. This is a contract position.
What You Will Do :
- Responsible for modeling and simulation of the client's components, including airbags, steering wheels and seat belts, together with the relevant vehicle system interfaces to achieve program performance targets.
- Work together with their OEM counterparts to define the appropriate restraint system for each occupant in the vehicle that interacts with the Clients restraint systems, and guide the Clients Application Engineering team’s designs.
- Lead customer CAE discussions and act as the technical customer interface in meetings and project reviews, effectively communicating analysis results, insights, recommendations, and providing innovative concept solutions to customers.
- Utilize pre-processors (for example, HyperMesh / LS Prepost / ANSA) for construction of high-quality FE meshes of restraint components.
- Build and correlate airbag, steering wheel, and seat belt FEA models, and conduct non-linear LS-DYNA FE solutions for crash safety-related impact simulations.
- Integrate airbags, steering wheel, and seatbelt FEA models and dummy positioning in sled and / or crash test virtual environments in projects where OEM’s request system development support.
- Optimize and correlate analyses with real world test results (airbag static deployment test, linear impactor test, FMVSS 226 head impact, etc.)
- Perform structural analysis (crash analysis, static strength analysis, fatigue analysis, and NVH analysis) on steering wheel components and assemblies following global CAE guidelines and processes.
- Analyze and interpret simulation results to make design recommendations and drive continuous improvement. Post-process results to determine if products meet customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to formulate countermeasures, design solutions during restraint development and involve in decision making for any countermeasure to meet project target.
- Collaborate with product engineers and test engineers to develop and conduct physical testing to collect input data for analysis and robust correlation.
- Contribute to the development of FEA best practices and standards within the organization by leading research activities to improve CAE methods.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the CAE team, identifying opportunities to enhance simulation methodologies, tools, and workflows. Evaluate and recommend new CAE tools and technologies to enhance the team's capabilities and efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and advancements in crash simulation and safety technologies, guiding the team's strategic direction and investment priorities.
- Perform project planning, scheduling analysis and prioritize project activities, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints. This includes coordinating off-shore CAE engineering resources, and mentoring and guiding junior FEA engineers.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including design, testing & validation, product engineering, and sales teams, to facilitate seamless integration of CAE analysis into the product development process.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as suppliers and research institutions, to leverage expertise and resources for advanced crash simulation and safety analysis capabilities.
- Program metrics generation, including CAE model development timing, model delivery status and model quality status.
- Have experience on working cross-culturally with team members in different global regions.
- Excellent ability to interpret and present simulation results effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Travel to client site if required.
