Job Summary :
Job incumbent provides patient care and operational support for the medical management of substance use withdrawal at Gateway to Recovery (GTR) under the supervision of a registered nurse. Obtains vital signs, escorts patients to rooms, and assists RN / LPN staff with patient care and activities of daily living. Assists medical provider or registered nurse with procedures and treatments. Keeps patients rooms and supply areas stocked and assists with room turn over between clients. Participates in daily operations to include room cleaning of patient areas, laundry, provision of patient meals, and monitoring of patient safety.
Adhere to the TCC Ch'eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Representative Duties :
1. Under the direction of the RN staff, provides support for patient care services to include :
a. Vital signs and biometric measurements are taken as appropriate.
b. Preps patient rooms prior to patient to admissions.
c. Prepares necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies, as needed.
d. Collects point of care testing specimens as directed by higher level staff.
e. Stocks patient rooms and supply areas.
2. Answers telephone calls, transfers and / or takes messages and refers to appropriate individuals.
3. Communicates with TCC staff, partner agencies, and outside healthcare providers , as directed by RN staff, to ensure that patients receive coordinated care and that emergency responses to the facility are initiated in timely fashion.
4. Conducts routine 30 minute safety rounds to ensure the wellbeing of all patients and immediately reports any concerns to RN staff.
5. Cleans patient bathrooms and showers after use.
6. Maintains a log of all sharps dispensed to patients (shaving razors) and documents their return receipt for proper disposal.
7. Prepares and maintains all necessary paper charting forms, admissions packets, and other paperwork needed for facility operations.
8. Drives patients to outside appointments and drives to various locations to pick up medications or supplies as directed by the Nurse Manager or designee.
9. Participates in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities and refer to appropriate individuals., and recreation activity.
10. Provides motivational counseling to patients as needed by assisting in the selection of educational videos and reading materials under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.
11. Works collaboratively with Medical and Nursing team members to accomplish Gateway to Recovery mission and goals. Will work in alignment with the general medical guidance of medical providers associated with Gateway to Recovery.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Current Alaska Certified Nursing Aide license.
3. BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
4. Prior health care experience preferred.
5. Familiarity with medical terminology.
6. Must be able to pass background check pursuant to State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
7. Alaska Driver's License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
1. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to work individual and within a medical team.
2. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
3. Proficiency with typing, using Office computer (MS Office Suite) and clinical computer applications (electronic health record systems).
4. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and understand and protect confidential information as specified in the Privacy Act, HIPAA, CFR42, and by all applicable TCC policies and procedure.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands :
Job incumbent may be required at times to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and be comfortable walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods. Job incumbent must be able to work under frequent deadlines.
