About the Role :
Animal and Client Care Associates (ACCA) are responsible for facilitating the animal adoption process by matching potential adopters with the best possible new companion. Excellent customer service is mandatory.
During the adoption process, ACCAs will coach clients on medical and behavioral information, basic animal behavior and training, provide resources, and take the clients through meeting their new animal companions. ACCAs are also required to follow all human and animal health and safety protocols, participate in routine trainings, and process and record financial transactions.
All Adoptions employees will become Fear Free certified and will follow appropriate animal handling when practicing basic animal husbandry.
Availability to work Saturday and Sunday is required.

People Care
- Actively practice and promote the Society's mission
- Advocate for shelter residents and the humane treatment of all animals
- Provide quality customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff, including responding to emails and phone calls promptly and courteously
- Facilitate client / animal interactions during adoption appointments
- Interpret and relay medical evaluations and behavioral assessments of dogs and cats
- Practice discretion with confidential information
- Promote the use of the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital and actively support Society programs, services, donation opportunities, and special events.
- Work cooperatively with all volunteers, recognizing the talent and commitment they bring to the organization
- Maintain positive relationships with coworkers
- Participate in staff meetings and stay up to date on departmental and organization-wide trainings
- Maintain appropriate hygiene and wear the staff uniform at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Animal Care
Follow established cleaning and disease prevention protocols to clean, disinfect and maintain shelter condos, kennels, cages, and general areasMonitor and track the health and behavior of the animals and immediately report abnormalities, progress, or needsEnsure all shelter animals are properly housed and cared for within the guidelines of the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, and that only Fear Free and positive reinforcement training methods are employedRecord Keeping & Technology
Complete necessary forms and data entry to process adoptions of animalsComplete timely data entry tasks, and ensure data integrity, using both paper and computer-based filing systemsFinancial Responsibility
Responsible for incoming monies and accurate handling of receipts and charge processingWhen scheduled to do so, responsible for closing and balancing cash drawer and completing depositsSafety
Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety guidelines, including practicing Society standard injury and illness preventionTake immediate action to address all hazards and safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at riskClean and maintain work areasRequirements
High school diploma or equivalentClient service experiencePrepared to work a very physically and socially demanding jobComfortable handling dogs / cats of all sizes and breedsStrong animal handling experience preferredKnowledge of animal psychology / science is helpfulComputer skills in a Windows environment requiredAvailable to work weekends, evenings, holiday shifts, and overtime as neededBe highly motivated, flexible, patient, and service-oriented while maintaining a professional manner with the public at all timesAct as a team player, practicing great communication and multitaskingCompassion for people with a willingness to work with the needs of a diverse clienteleBilingual Spanish language fluency is required for this position.Salary & Benefits : The starting hourly wage for this position is $25.00 per hour.
Part-time under 20 hours a week, On-Call, Temporary, and Seasonal positions are eligible for only those benefits provided by law. All positions are eligible for discounts on veterinary care at our SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital and Spay / Neuter Clinic at Mission Campus.
