Public Works : Waste Water Operator I

SUMMARY :

Responsible for operating equipment to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repair of the city's wastewater infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

• Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater system components.
• Assists with performing preventative maintenance on related equipment.
• Assists in the collection of water samples.
• Performs visual checks of facilities for equipment malfunctions and assists in repairing or correcting malfunctions.
• Maintains records and logs. Collects and records additional performance information.
• Assists in locating underground utilities.
• Performs building maintenance and janitorial duties.
• Assists with traffic safety devices and controls traffic at work sites.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies.
• Assists with special city events.
• May assist with snow removal operations.
• Promotes and supports the overall mission of the City by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Education and Experience :

High School Diploma / GED. One (1) year of maintenance / construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT :

Work is performed outdoors. Work is subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals, fuels, fumes, biohazards, noise, and electrical currents under adverse environmental conditions. This position is classified as "Essential Personnel."
