POSITION SUMMARY
Technical Systems Integration (TSI) is seeking a Mid-Level Technical Writing Support specialist to join our team supporting the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) at the Surface Advanced Warfighting School (SAWS) in San Diego, CA. This critical role supports the development and maintenance of tactical publications that directly impact surface warfare tactics, techniques, and procedures for the U.S. Navy. The successful candidate will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts, Warfare Tactics Instructors, and Navy leadership to ensure tactical publications are current, accurate, and effectively support fleet operations across Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Surface Warfare (SUW), and Amphibious Warfare (AMW) domains.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Tactical Publication Development & Management
- Review, update, and develop Tactical Memorandums (TACMEMOs), Tactical Bulletins (TACBULs), Tactical Notes (TACNOTEs), Tactical Advisory Messages (TAMs), and Fleet Advisory Messages (FAMs)
- Provide expert input on Joint Publications (JPs), Navy Warfare Publications (NWPs), Navy Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (NTTPs), and Navy Tactical Reference Publications (NTRPs)
- Develop and review Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Concept of Employment (CONEMPs), and other operational requirements documents
- Monitor publication project progress through all phases, including Front End Analysis (FEA), content creation, editing, approval, and distribution in publication databases
Research & Content Validation
Research and analyze information from ships' battle bills, naval messages, combat system / equipment configuration manuals, and validated fleet tacticsIncorporate data provided by technical specialists and validated fleet review comments into publication updatesEnsure all content complies with existing directives and maintains consistency and clarity across publicationsValidate tactical and technical information for accuracy and relevance to current fleet operationsEditorial & Writing Excellence
Write and edit publications for specific target audiences, ensuring tactical and technical information is clear, correct, and succinctRewrite and restructure content while preserving author's meaning and intentApply proper classification markings in accordance with prescribed security guidelinesFollow writing and editorial policies, practices, and procedures established by the N5 Directorate and NRTP 1-01Stakeholder Collaboration & Content Enhancement
Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Warfare Tactics Instructors (WTIs) to develop and clarify publication contentProvide recommendations on effective presentation methods including figures, tables, and listingsCoordinate with SMWDC divisions and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive content coverageApply warfare area knowledge and experience to enhance publication quality and tactical relevanceGraphic Design & Visual Communication
Develop high-quality graphics, charts, and visual aids to support publication content and presentationsCreate professional visual materials using Adobe Creative Suite and equivalent design softwareEnsure visual elements enhance understanding of complex tactical concepts and proceduresMaintain consistent visual standards across all SMWDC publications and materialsRequirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Bachelor's DegreeExperience :
3+ years of recent experience developing high-quality graphics for presentations3+ years of recent experience teaching or developing doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Surface Warfare (SUW), and / or Amphibious Warfare (AMW)Required Technical Skills :
3+ years of recent proficiency with Adobe software including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and Premiere or equivalent computer programsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applicationsExperience with publication database management systemsRequired Competencies :
Strong technical writing and editing capabilitiesKnowledge of Navy tactical publication standards and formatsUnderstanding of classification marking requirements and security protocolsAbility to work collaboratively with military personnel and subject matter expertsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
