Provides safety and security services which include the implementation and administration of programs that assist the campus community in maintaining order and / or improving the personal safety of the students, faculty, staff, guests, and property of the College.
This is a part-time, on-call position with an hourly wage range of $24.47-$30.59 per hour.
Core Responsibilities :
- Patrols campus grounds in assigned areas by various means to identify suspicious activity, violations of College rules / regulations and state law, and handles incidents as necessary.
- Participates in the integration of Department of Public Safety services into the broader campus community.
- Treats members of the community and co-workers with dignity and respect.
- Assures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, College rules and regulations and departmental policies.
- Promotes positive community service and relations with the entire campus community.
- Enforces college rules and regulations.
- Responds to all serious incidents, first responder to medical, and fire alarms, medical emergencies, intoxicated persons on campus.
- Problem solving following policies, and procedures.
- Complies with lawful orders given by supervisors.
- Enforces traffic and parking regulations.
- Conducts preliminary and follow up investigations; writes incident reports in a timely manner.
- Attends judicial hearings.
- Participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Provides crowd control function at athletic, social and special events.
- Transports students to and from the Health Center, hospital and doctor’s offices within half a mile of campus.
- Provides courier services as directed for some college departments.
- Must attend and successfully complete the Public Safety Academy.
- Provides general security services for the college community such as locking, unlocking of rooms, vehicles, building checks, and patrolling the grounds.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
High school diplomaPost-secondary education preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Previous institutional security experience or law enforcement background desirable.Specialized and on-the-job training required.Valid driver’s license.Must have excellent conflict resolution and communications skills.Must handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion and pass extensive investigative background check.Must be able to work evenings, overnights and occasional long shifts.Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and extra shifts.
Experience
Previous institutional security experience or law enforcement background desirable.Specialized and on-the-job training required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs several times per day.Must be able to walk long distances, for extended periods of time and on various types of terrain.Must be able to sit, stand and drive for extended periods of time.Must be able to get in and out of a vehicle several times per day.Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally.Must work in inclement weather – hot, cold, rain, snow, ice.Benefits
