Summary
Evaluates education technology programs and recommends integration into the curriculum. Collaborates with instructional departments and campuses with integration of technology into curriculum and instructional practices.
Distinguishing Career Features
This position provides support related to blended and multimedia learning computer-aided educational applications and support as it pertains to student learning and assessment. The Instructional Designer may also serve as lead Learning Management System administrator for the college.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties may vary among departments divisions and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following types of duties as assigned :
1. Evaluates educational technology programs and recommends integration into the curriculum.
2. Develops project flow for educational products and courses from content design to the identification of audiences and their learning styles the actual content and delivery strategies.
3. Researches designs tests and implements interactive learning environments. Works collaboratively with production teams to develop desired outcomes where curriculum is blended with technologies for delivery and features for interactive use.
4. Implements a wide range of dynamic and adaptive technology-based instruction and adult-focused learning systems following modern teaching theories including those using mobile learning applications and tools as well as dynamic adaptive learning solutions.
5. Sets up quality assurance testing procedures. Prepares training content and instructional materials for use in deployed learning systems.
6. Conducts in-service training and mentoring of faculty and project team members on the use of deployed learning systems instructional design higher education and innovation in education.
7. Collaborates with Academic Deans Academic Department Chairs Military / Contract Education Faculty Senate faculty Advisory Groups and selected subject matter experts to improve the quality and scope of college courses and learning tools.
8. May serve as lead Learning Management System administrator for the college. May coordinate and facilitate college Learning Management System team meetings.
9. Evaluates implements and maintains 3rd party tools for the Learning Management System. Communicates with vendors to create and maintain documentation training and change management procedures of 3rd party tools.
10. Assists with the coordination with sister colleges and Coast District Learning Management System admins in the identification evaluation and implementation of requirements and customizations of the Learning Management System. Manages requirements and customization needs from faculty and other users for the college. Represents the college at District Learning Management System committee meetings.
11. Develops and documents processes use cases and test procedures for Learning Management System programmers and administrators in the District and other colleges.
12. Coordinates with Learning Management System vendor to ensure system reliability and functionality. Liaison between the vendor and the college the District and other colleges. Creates and maintains Knowledge Base for Learning Management System vendor.
13. Researches Learning Management System upgrades analyzes impact conducts tests and implements updates. Participates in Learning Management System Beta testing for vendors and provides feedback that will advocate the interests of the college.
14. Represents the college by networking with other colleges universities and partners. Participates in presentations and workgroups related to the Learning Management System Community the California Virtual Campus or state-wide initiatives.
15. Supports workflows assists with the training of help support staff creates technical support training materials and monitors all communications between technical support staff and customers. Provides Tier 2 technical support for the Learning Management System and other technology tools related to teaching and course content creation. Liaison between end users and Tier 3 technical support personnel.
16. Partners with faculty to design and develop course content centered on student engagement instructionally sound learning practices compliance and quality.
17. Consults with academic administration faculty and technical staff to develop leading edge instructional technologies and solutions for individual courseware implementation requirements.
18. Conducts training of facility and support staff in the operation and integration of technologies for delivering instruction and testing extracting and organizing data and preserving subject matter content and discussions.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
20. Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 Code of Professional Ethics.

1. The position requires specialized professional knowledge of the theories and pedagogies associated with instructional design adult learning styles and strategies for delivering instruction.
2. Requires specialized knowledge of the relationship and applications for interactive business and education technologies software and terminology.
3. Requires specific knowledge of adult learning methods and techniques for computer mediated learning.
4. Requires well-developed knowledge of operating systems used throughout the District desktop productivity software and cross platform issues with application software.
5. Requires working knowledge of web-based networks for computers handheld and mobile devices.
6. Requires knowledge of the uses of new technologies such as web development multimedia tools courseware authoring tools and other instructional technology.
7. Requires business math skills sufficient to prepare cost estimates.
8. Requires knowledge of English language sufficient to write clear succinct step-by-step instructions and explanations.
9. Requires well-developed human relations skills to deliver in-service education to educators and end users in group and individual settings and to explain advanced
technical concepts to non-technical staff.

7. Requires the ability to express educational technology goals with imaginative application of curriculum in classroom and remote device environments.
8. Requires the ability to convey concepts in writing and orally to individuals and / or groups of diverse backgrounds.
9. Requires the ability to work in a changing environment and manage multiple priorities.
10. Requires the ability to work cooperatively and productively with a diverse population of educators and students.
Physical Abilities
1. The general physical demands working conditions and essential job functions associated with this classification will be kept on file with the Office of Human Resources.

Education and Experience
The position typically requires a Masters degree in Computer Science Software Engineering Information Security or equivalent plus five years of progressive experience maintaining and developing computer systems and applications. Alternatively a Bachelors degree and six years of experience may be accepted. Or any combination of education and experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for the position.
Preferred : Expertise in Software Development Systems Engineering and Architecture and / or Information Security is preferred.

This is an IN-HOUSE ONLY - permanent general funded full-time 12-months per year classified position. The normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and / or weekends if necessary to meet the departments needs. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. The District provides medical dental and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. ( Salary Schedule : EE-125)

Pay Philosophy :
Coast Community College District through policies practices and other benefit programs delivers a fair and equitable total compensation program that promotes equal employment opportunity inclusion and workforce general it is the policy of the District to place new employees at the first step of the salary grade. All movement on the salary schedule will occur July 1 of each year for all classified employees.
