Overview
JOB SUMMARY : The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide EHS support to operations and management across various projects, including civil work, closure and demolition, drilling services, excavation, onsite treatment, and plant decontamination and remediation. This role is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, supporting the implementation of company and client safety programs, and driving continuous improvement in all aspects of health and safety performance.
Responsibilities
- Support field and project operations by promoting safe work practices.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations applicable to environmental, industrial, civil, demolition, and remediation projects.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of company and customer-specific EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections across civil construction, excavation, drilling, demolition, and plant decontamination activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions or behaviors through proactive engagement with employees and supervision.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective actions.
- Track, maintain, and analyze project-specific safety metrics, incident trends, and leading indicators to support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of project-specific health and safety plans (HASPs), job hazard analysis plans (JHAs), work permits, and risk assessments.
- Represent the company professionally during client, contractor, and regulatory audits, inspections, and meetings.
- Deliver EHS training, including safety orientations, toolbox talks, task-specific instruction, and compliance-based training (HAZWOPER, fall protection, heavy equipment, demolition safety, etc.).
- Maintain and manage employee training records to ensure compliance with safety training requirements.
- Attend operational and project planning meetings to provide safety input and address potential hazards.
- Manage exposure monitoring programs, including air, noise, and dust monitoring for activities such as soil excavation, demolition, and decontamination.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.
Experience and Skill Requirements
High School education or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in occupational safety & health or related field preferred.Minimum 3–5 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in industrial, environmental, construction, and CERCLA / Superfund site projects.Comprehensive understanding of EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Experience in safety training delivery; OSHA 501 / 511, and HAZWOPER preferred.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.Capable of performing physical tasks including walking, climbing, lifting >5 lbs., and wearing required PPE.
Ability to obtain medical clearance and respiratory protection certification, as required.Seniority level
