About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse - Alternate Birthing

License : Active Illinois RN License

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal monitoring competency every 2 years

Must-Have : 2 years labor & delivery experience. Ability to manage labor patients. Previous travel experience.

Description :

The unit has 5 Labor & Delivery beds and 2 OR suites for C-sections.

There is 1 L&D triage bed and 3 single postpartum rooms along with 4 double postpartum rooms.

Birth cases per day vary widely.

The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 1 for active labor, up to 1 : 3 for antepartum / triage / early labor, and 1 : 6 for mother-baby care.

There is a Charge Nurse on duty 24 / 7, who also takes a patient assignment when necessary.

Staffing includes 1 surgical tech per shift and occasionally a PCT depending on census and acuity.

Respiratory therapy equipment is not available for adults, but CPAP and HFNC are utilized in the nursery, with occasional vents while awaiting transport.

There are no tele monitor techs on the unit.

The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Obix.

Nurses typically work one shift, accommodating block scheduling.

RN travelers are required to work every other weekend and every other holiday.

Floating requirements are not applicable.

Scrub colors are provided by the facility, and dedicated shoes or shoe covers are used if shoes are not dedicated.

Department-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts.

The charting system used is EPIC.

A BSN is not required.

This is an acute care setting.
