Job Description

We’re searching for a dynamic and values‑aligned Director of Movement Resources to steward KCPF’s participatory gifting process, strengthen relationships with partners, and co‑create the ecosystem supports that help movements thrive. This role blends strategic project leadership with hands‑on execution, centering trust, equity, and community power in all aspects of our work.

About Us :

The KC People’s Fund (KCPF) is a social justice foundation that supports grassroots organizers working in communities impacted by systemic racism. We envision a Kansas City where Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other people of color have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive in a world of abundance and love. Our funding prioritizes community organizing, movement building, and participatory gifting to shift power and democratize philanthropy.

We believe that those closest to the issues are best positioned to identify solutions and advocate for their communities. Our work is rooted in relationships and trust, and we are committed to ensuring that community-led efforts receive the support they need to drive systemic change.

What You’ll Be Doing :

The Director of Movement Resources is a key leadership role focused on designing and running KCPF’s participatory gifting process, cultivating deep community partnerships, and co-creating organizational-strengthening resources beyond grantmaking. You’ll collaborate closely with the Executive Director, staff, board, and the gifting team to ensure our practices advance equity, accountability, and community power.

Specifically, you’ll be responsible for :

Participatory Gifting Project Management (35%)

  • Lead end‑to‑end project management of KCPF’s participatory gifting cycles and the gifting team, centering the leadership, wisdom, and lived experience of communities most impacted by oppression.
  • Structure agendas, facilitate meetings, manage group dynamics, and document decisions, next steps, and learnings.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for applicant and partner questions about KCPF funding opportunities.

Partner Relationships & Capacity Building (25%)

  • Build and nurture relationships with KCPF partners, grassroots organizers, movement leaders, and partner organizations across the metro, including historically under‑resourced communities.
  • Provide ongoing support and capacity‑building assistance to partners; identify needs and connect them with relevant resources.
  • Remain well‑connected to key actors in the field and identify new and deepening opportunities to uplift and support communities on the ground.
  • Co‑Create Ecosystem Supports Beyond Grantmaking (15%)

  • Design, pilot, and iterate on organizational‑strengthening supports (e.g., peer learning spaces, technical assistance, tools) that complement monetary gifts and are responsive to partner feedback.
  • Coordinate with peer funders and collaborators to align strategies, share resources, and shift philanthropic norms toward greater equity and accountability.
  • External Representation & Funder Collaboratives (10%)

  • Represent KCPF in philanthropic, nonprofit, movement, and community spaces; participating in collaborative working groups and external meetings as appropriate.
  • Share lessons learned and uplift community‑centered philanthropic practices.
  • Support external communications and social media engagement, as needed, in partnership with staff and board members.
  • Events & Convenings (10%)

  • Plan, implement, and support events, gatherings, trainings, and workshops that advance learning, relationship‑building, and ecosystem health.
  • Coordinate a range of logistics (venues, vendors, tech, communications) for meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Systems, Budgeting & Reporting (5%)

  • Partner with staff to develop and manage program budgets; steward resources for impact and accountability.
  • Support grants management systems and light technology adoption to ensure effective, accessible processes.
  • Prepare concise reports for leadership, board, and external stakeholders.
  • Other Responsibilities

  • Assume other responsibilities and explore new opportunities that arise with the evolving needs and aspirations of KCPF.
  • Who You Are :

While no one person will embody all of the qualities described below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences :

  • Deep, demonstrated commitment to racial justice, community power, and alignment with KCPF’s mission and values.
  • 7–10 years of progressive professional experience, including at least 5 years in movement work, community organizing, advocacy, or social justice-aligned roles with demonstrated project management and facilitation responsibility
  • Experience in movement work, community organizing, advocacy, and / or social justice philanthropy; familiarity with participatory grantmaking and power-sharing models.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and facilitation skills; able to design and lead community-centered learning spaces.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple timelines and stakeholders in an emergent, startup environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills; comfortable communicating with partners, collaborators, and board members.
  • Tech-curious and adaptable; proficiency with common tools (e.g., Microsoft Office / Google Workspace, Asana / other PM tools, Canva) and an eagerness to learn grants management systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; sound judgment on when to lead, when to partner, and when to escalate.
  • Willingness to occasionally support meetings or events outside of core business hours.
  • Strong Preferences

  • Lived experience in the Kansas City metropolitan area’s historically under-resourced communities, including Black and Brown communities.
  • Strong ties to Wyandotte County.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Work Environment & Benefits

  • Hybrid work model with flexibility for remote work
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Generous paid time off and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborative and mission-driven work environment centered on equity and relationship-building
  • Four-day work week
  • Health Insurance is paid at 90% paid for the Employee
  • Dental & Vision Insurance paid at 100%
  • 401 (k) Plan : 5% Safe Harbor Contribution
  • Life Insurance, Short Term Disability & Long Term Disability
  • Talk Space Mental Health Services
  • Kindbody Family Planning Services
  • KC People’s Fund is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those from historically marginalized communities to apply. We are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable work environment where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
