What to Expect
As a member of the cell modeling team, this engineer will build out mechanical analysis methods to solve complex problems, developing and recommending tests and models to improve battery cell design and performance. This role will involve model development, test development, test execution, and first-principles explanations of mechanical behavior. The engineer in this role will also be expected to work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams.
What You'll Do
- Advance the capabilities of Tesla's in-house cell models
- Take complex cell and battery pack configurations and provide simplified free-body diagrams
- Apply cell and material test data to models
- Perform component / cell level mechanical tests
- Develop new test methods and models to represent complex loading and boundary conditions
- Consolidate results into consistent workflow to be consumed by higher level mechanical simulations
- Document and communicate best practices and important test results and fundamental understanding across a wide range of teams
- Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell design for different electric vehicle and energy product applications
