The Licensed Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care services to adult patients in non-critical and critical care settings, including the Adult Intensive Care Unit. Care is delivered in accordance with hospital standards, departmental policies, and physician orders, with a focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, and collaborative care.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssess, implement, and evaluate respiratory care interventions for adult patients in both non-critical and critical care areas.
Provide invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and monitor patient response and ventilator parameters.
Perform ventilator maintenance and implement ordered ventilator setting changes while assessing patient tolerance.
Administer respiratory therapies, including aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, and PEP therapy.
Verify physician orders and document all clinical care accurately in the electronic medical record.
Respond promptly to Code Blue, RIT/CRIT calls, and patient transports.
Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Demonstrate independent clinical judgment in managing patient care and prioritizing workload.
Delegate tasks appropriately and assist with mentoring new staff as assigned.
Support departmental and hospital initiatives through participation in education, in-services, and quality improvement activities.
Maintain patient rights, confidentiality, and high standards of customer service for patients and families.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum of year of respiratory therapy experience.
Required experience in Adult Intensive Care and Critical Care settings.
Demonstrated ability to perform:
Medication administration via nebulizer or MDI
Medical gas administration
Mechanical ventilation management
Intubation and extubation assistance
Suctioning and bronchoscopy assistance
Pulse oximetry and respiratory mechanics
Chest physiotherapy and PEP therapy
CPR
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to evaluate clinical and numerical data.
Basic computer proficiency for documentation and order entry.
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
Valid Oklahoma Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
OR a temporary letter to practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board
CRT or RRT credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) (current or obtained within months of hire)
