Controller – Single Family Office – $200-250k base + bonus
Overview
A privately held single family office based in San Francisco is seeking a highly skilled and discreet Controller to oversee all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and operations for the family’s investment entities, trusts, partnerships, and philanthropic activities. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting knowledge, investment reporting fluency, and the ability to manage multiple legal entities and complex asset structures with precision and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee full general ledger accounting, consolidations, and financial statement preparation across multiple entities, including trusts, partnerships, and operating companies
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to GAAP
- Coordinate with external advisors (tax, legal, investment, and audit teams) to ensure compliance and optimized reporting across all structures
- Maintain and reconcile investment activity for public and private holdings, real estate, partnerships, and alternative assets
- Lead cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and inter‑entity funding or capital calls
- Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and expense reporting for household, staff, and investment activities
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Manage annual audits and tax preparation, including support for K‑1s, trusts, and estate filings
- Provide detailed, confidential financial reporting and ad‑hoc analyses to principals and senior leadership
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, reporting tools, and technology integrations to support scalability and transparency
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a family office, private investment firm, or public accounting firm serving high‑net‑worth clientsDeep understanding of GAAP, partnership accounting, and multi‑entity consolidationsProven ability to navigate complex investment structures including private equity, venture, real estate, and hedge fund vehiclesHigh level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentialityStrong systems orientation; experience with QuickBooks Enterprise, NetSuite, or similar GL systems preferredExceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and integrityCollaborative, low‑ego team player with a proactive and hands‑on approachPlease submit a resume to be considered.
