The Inventory Control Specialist is a civilian position responsible for the secure handling, tracking, storage, and disposition of property and evidence, as well as operational supplies and equipment. This role ensures compliance with internal standards and external accreditation requirements through meticulous inventory management and stringent quality assurance practices. This position is located within the Property and Evidence Division of the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Administrative Services Bureau.

Shift Information : Generally day shift, Monday - Friday.

Essential Functions : Receives, verifies, catalogs, orders, and stores law enforcement evidence and operational supplies. Conducts routine and random audits to ensure inventory accuracy and accountability. Performs quality assurance inspections in accordance with IAPE and ICOPA standards. Coordinates the timely return, release, or lawful disposal of property in accordance with judicial orders, applicable laws, and department policies. Oversees the auction process, ensuring the secure, lawful, and compliant transfer of firearms and general items. Maintains and optimizes internal and external storage areas, including secure offsite locations. Monitors storage conditions for items including narcotics, firearms, biological evidence, and currency. Maintains thorough and accurate chain-of-custody documentation for all evidence. Identifies discrepancies, procedural gaps, and recommends corrective actions. Reports all non-conformities directly to the Evidence Manager. Prepares for and participates in all internal and external audits, as well as required accreditation inspections. Performs related duties as assigned.

Additional Functions : Maintains up-to-date knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in evidence handling and inventory management. Actively participates in training initiatives and assists in the development and refinement of evidence handling protocols. Assists law enforcement officers, attorneys, and other authorized personnel with evidence retrieval and proper documentation in compliance with legal standards.

Job Requirements : Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in evidence management, warehousing operations, inventory control, or quality assurance; law enforcement agency experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in warehouse safety and use of pallet jacks and other lift equipment. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and related office / inventory control systems and software applications. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment. Ability to type at least 40 wpm. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships.

Other Requirements : Must successfully complete an oral board interview, polygraph examination, and comprehensive background investigation. Valid driver's license required. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug testing. IAPE Certification preferred or must be obtained within 18 months of hire.

Work Environment & Physical Demands : Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments, including exposure to adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry 60lbs; heavier lifting may be occasionally required. This position requires physical mobility, including bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting heavy items. Use of forklifts, ladders, carts, and safety equipment may be required. Regular exposure to hazardous or sensitive materials including controlled substances, loaded firearms, biological evidence, and other crime-related evidence.
