Job Description - Instructional Designer, 40 Hours, Global Health Equity (3310902)

The Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center (MRCT Center) of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard is a research and policy center focused on improving the design, conduct, and oversight of multi-regional clinical trials, with a particular focus on trials sited in or involving the developing world. We function as a convening group to bring together collaborative multidisciplinary teams to identify expert parties from industry, academia, advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, and regulatory agencies to address critical issues in the conduct and oversight of clinical trials. Our efforts have resulted in the implementation of improved clinical research practices, greater transparency, and improved safety for research participants.

The MRCT Center resides within the Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which was founded by Paul Farmer. The DGHE is the academic and administrative home of the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center.

We are seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer, focused on graphics and information design, to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping clear, accessible, and engaging communication materials for a global audience. This position involves collaborating closely with internal teams to visually organize and present complex concepts, from clinical research data to multi-stakeholder reports and training modules. Leveraging design thinking, data analysis, and cutting-edge technologies, this position will transform complex ideas into visual formats that are easy to understand and impactful.

In this role, the successful candidate will create visually rich deliverables across multiple formats—including .doc, .pdf, .pptx, .png, .mp3, and SCORM-compliant packages—ensuring that all materials meet high standards of accessibility, consistency, and engagement. The position will also contribute to the development of interactive media, optimize Learning Management System (LMS) content, and drive improvements in communication strategies through data analysis and visual representation. Whether designing standardized templates, developing dynamic learning modules, or managing audio-visual production, the Instructional Designer will help ensure that the MRCT Center’s communications resonate with a diverse, global audience and align with key learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Information Mapping and Visual Design : Collaborate with internal teams to map out and visually organize complex concepts across a range of projects, from global training modules to internal reports and multi-stakeholder presentations. Utilize design thinking to translate complex clinical research data into clear, engaging graphics, diagrams, and layouts. Ensure that all content is optimized for both print and digital formats, meets accessibility standards, and is designed to engage diverse audiences, including non-experts.
  • Data Analysis and Visual Representation : Collect, analyze, and interpret engagement metrics (website, email, and digital content) to inform and optimize communication strategies. Design infographics, charts, and dashboards that make complex data more accessible and actionable.
  • Template Development and Design Automation : Lead the creation of standardized templates (.pptx, .doc, .pdf) to ensure consistency across internal and external communications. Provide training to teams on how to effectively use and optimize these templates.
  • AV Production and Digital Media : Manage audio-visual production tasks, including video editing, sound design, and graphic development, ensuring high-quality outputs for instructional and promotional content.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Degree (BA or higher) in Computer Science, Graphic Design, or a related field : A strong foundation in either technical or design disciplines is essential.
  • Proficiency in Graphic Design and Data Visualization : Expertise in design tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or similar).
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) : Familiarity with SCORM-compliant packages.
  • AV Production and Digital Media Experience : Ability to manage audio-visual tasks such as video editing and sound design.
  • Design Thinking and Information Mapping : Capability to apply design thinking principles.
  • Expertise in Template Development and Design Automation : Skill in creating standardized templates.
  • Data Analysis Skills : Ability to collect and analyze engagement metrics.
  • Knowledge of Accessibility Standards : Ensuring that all design deliverables are accessible to diverse audiences.
