Electrical Engineer – Hardware Engineering
Location : Huntsville, AL (On-site)
Clearance : Active Secret required
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) from an accredited university.
2+ years of professional experience (0 years with Master’s).
2+ years of recent experience using a CAD package such as Visio, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO, Siemens Capital Suites (Logic / Harness), or NX to develop technical drawings.
Experience with engineering PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter) and MRP systems (e.g., SAP).
Proven experience leading small engineering projects , including task and schedule planning.
Experience generating technical documentation , including drawings, specifications, reports, test procedures, and program documentation.
Experience in electrical / power system design , network communication design , cable harness design , and electrical load analysis .
Hands-on experience researching, designing, integrating, testing, and deploying electrical components or subsystems .
Experience reviewing engineering specifications, schematics, and drawings , with the ability to translate customer requirements into technical specifications.
Strong understanding of industry and defense electrical engineering standards and procedures , including component design, trade studies, and impact assessments.
Experience evaluating COTS and military components for compliance and system requirements.
Experience in one or more systems engineering domains , including requirements derivation, system design, verification / validation, and trade studies.
Must possess an active Secret clearance and be able to work on-site, in-office .
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mission- and safety-critical systems .
Familiarity with MDA Core Standards (e.g., MDA-QS MAP, MDA-QS PMAP, MDA Instruction .20-INS).
Experience with requirements management or model-based engineering tools such as DOORS or CAMEO .
IPC- certification or equivalent workmanship experience.
Experience with circuit card assembly and schematic design tools .
Hands-on experience using lab test equipment (function generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
Security+ certification preferred.
Familiarity with MIL-STDs (e.g., A, , , ), IEEE standards , TEMPEST 01-13 , and NEC .
Experience with short circuit, bent pin, and sneak circuit analyses .
Familiarity with wireless communication systems (point-to-point and multipoint).
Experience mentoring or reviewing work of junior engineers.
Responsibilities
The selected Electrical Engineer will support DSI’s Hardware Engineering projects related to advanced defense and aerospace systems. Responsibilities include :
Developing and maintaining electrical and hardware design documentation for ground and facility systems.
Performing analyses and ensuring designs meet military and industry standards .
Creating and maintaining rack / system-level drawings and interface documentation in PLM systems.
Supporting trade studies , risk assessments , and design reviews to ensure technical compliance.
Coordinating design change requests , configuration management, and baseline control.
Evaluating system design performance, supporting integration, and assisting in test planning.
Participating in team meetings, design reviews, and documentation updates in collaboration tools.
Additional Information
Must demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts.
Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
