Work Schedule

FT; Monday-Friday, 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm. Work is primarily performed on site, but some hybrid work and scheduling flexibility may be possible. Some off-hours work for maintenance and emergency repair may be required.

General Description

The Sr. Network Technician is responsible for installation and maintenance of PLU data, voice and video infrastructure. This position works as part of a tight-knit team to design and implement cabling and infrastructure needs for campus-wide Networking, Telecommunications, and related systems.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the campus community on phone and network-related problems.
  • Perform PBX (digital & analog) and voicemail programming and maintenance, data moves, adds, and changes.
  • Configure, update, and maintain campus-wide telecommunications infrastructure, documentation, and standards.
  • Design and implement wireless and wired network infrastructure to support end-user and infrastructure connectivity campus-wide
  • Create, update, and maintain SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) guides, troubleshooting manuals, and system documentation.
  • Serve as primary support contact for telecommunications vendors (carriers as well as software and service providers).
  • Maintain E911 database accuracy.
  • Support emergency systems and safety technologies such as alarm, mass-notification, access control, & video surveillance systems collaboratively with I&TS, Campus Safety, and Facilities staff.
  • Assist with the supervision, training, and work assignments of student technicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to keep detailed and organized records.

Ability to solve technical problems creatively.

Ability to analyze and implement challenging logic structures such as telephone call trees, alarm relay logic, & three-dimensional wireless designs.

Strong ability to multitask and work independently.

Ability to be a team player and to communicate opinions and concerns in a constructive manner.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with users and staff at all levels of technical experience.

Skilled with customer service both as front-line as well as an escalation point.

Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Knowledge of network and telecommunication troubleshooting protocols.

Ability to execute cabling systems operation, maintenance, and testing protocols.

Knowledge of all applicable cabling standards.

Knowledge of codes and procedures for establishing cabling infrastructure pathways.

Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling.
